One of my favorite things to do on my free time is road cycling. This passion started as a necessesity back during my college years as I did not have a car and used my bike to get around everywhere. This soon turned into a hobby and I began to ride my bike around for excersice and recreation. Cycling quickly became a passion of mine. I have biked over 7,000 miles and close to 500 hours since I started logging my rides in 201t. In 2024 alone I accomplished 1,590 miles logged, including my longest ride yet (50 miles). My pace slowed down at the end of September 2024 due to a cycling accident which broke my left arm. I've been slowly getting back into the rythm of cycling and will continue to update my data visualization page as I go along.
To create the data visualizations below, I exported the data from my rides in GPX format from Samsung Health. Then, I created a simple Python script that goes through the files and formats them into an Excel-readable format. Finally, I use a Power Query in Excel and the 3D map function to create the end result. These are my rides from 2017 to 2024.
